Same old thing

Lately I really haven't felt all that bloggy because we really haven't had a whole lot to write about. I could probably write forever about things my kids do that I think are cute, but you would probably get sick of it, so I am limiting myself. Since I haven't done any updates on our family for a while, here goes:

Jacob recently got called as a ward missionary and he is loving it! He has also had the opportunity to teach discussions with the missionaries several times and boy does he enjoy that!

This month I had a friend talk me into training to run a 10K with her. Let me just say, I think she purposely waited until my birthday, when I was feeling old and out of shape, to tease me about my age and then ask if I was interested in training with her. She's older than me, but it still worked, because I agreed to do it. Now I have less than 3 months to get my lazy bones in gear. My goal is to simply finish the race-who cares about placing. I told my friend I just want to get myself motivated to be better than I am now and finally get into shape again. So far (a whole week and a half) I've been really good at following our training schedule. We start slow and gradually add distance until we are at 6 miles. So far I'm up to 3 miles and haven't passed out yet!
Makayla is still doing awesome in school! We got invited to her school assembly the other day because she won two awards-she was student of the month for all the kindergartener classes and also is a member of the ABC Club. Basically whenever the kids pass off all their ABC's they are in this exclusive club. Out of 23 kids in her class, only about 7 people are in the club. Makayla's class also finished taking some reading readiness tests. When we got the results it showed that she more than doubled what she was supposed to get. For example, she was supposed to name the beginning sounds of 28 random letters in a minute- she got 57! What a smarty pants. A few weeks ago she was in charge of the scripture and article of faith for Primary. We were talking about the 12th article of faith and how it talks about kings, presidents, rulers, etc. I explained what Kings and presidents were and told her that we had a president, not a ruler. Then I explained that the president of the united states was different than the president of our church or the prophet. I asked her who our prophet is. She said "It's Thomas S. Monson." Then I asked her if she knew who the President of the US was. She looked at me and said "That's easy mom--Mrs. Lee taught us that at school. Soon we will have a new one, but right now it's Gordon B. Bush!" What do they teach our kids at school????
I can't believe I forgot Makayla's BIG news. She got her ears pierced last week! She has been so excited to get them done but wasn't brave enough to have something shot into her ear (the shot from when she had her kidney infection was too close on her mind). Finally she decided to do it so we went to the salon and had Jacob do it. I took several pictures of her in the process of getting it done, but never did a finished product. Guess I'll have to do one this week.
By the way, she wasn't too happy when she was getting it done, but now she loves it!

Kelli is really growing up a lot the past few months. She is more talkative and plays like she is a lot older. For Christmas she got a tricycle and the snow had finally melted off enough that she copuld ride it outside a bit. She's still learning how to pedal, but she loves it and has so much fun. Each day she always asks if someone can come over and play with her-usually it's one of Makayla's friends, who incidentally, are a bunch older than Makayla. Kelli doesn't care, she'll play with anyone. Kelli did want her ears pierced, until she saw Makayla get hers done. Now throughout the day she will just randomly tell me or Jac that she does NOT want her "ear peer". Oh yeah. I'm also supposed to tell you Kelli is really good at making her bed by herself each day.

Makayla and Kelli both say that Laney is now finally a big girl. Last week she went to nursery for the first time (Jac and I both taught during Sunday School). She is also in the process of moving from the crib into a regular bed. So far we just have the mattress on the floor because when she sleeps she is all over the place. I need to have Jacob build us a small rail that will keep her in bed while sleeping but that she can still climb over when she is awake. Not that ANY of my kids are monkeys and enjoy climbing-hence, part of the reason she is graduating from the crib.
