First Real Sporting Events

Here's a crazy fact about our family- before this year, we have never been to any type of sporting event that one of us were not playing in.  No high school, college, or professional games of any kind.  I think it was partially because we didn't live close to anything we were dying to see, plus, we would all rather play than watch.  However, we figured it was time to try something new!

Jacob cuts hair for several of the coaches and players on the SUU Men's Basketball team.  The head coach told Jacob he would give him free tickets anytime he wanted to watch.  The girls were pretty skeptical about it- they don't exactly love the game.  I had to try to explain that the fun of going to a game isn't just watching the game-it's the atmosphere.  It's the music, the crazy fan stuff, the "karaoke cam", the excitement of cheering for "your" team, and just being silly.  They still didn't get it until the saw the basketball game and they thought it was great!  We went with the Martin's and all had so much fun.  I think the girls were all more impressed with the cheerleaders and their pyramids and stunts than the basketball team, though (the team is not having a good year).

A few days later we went and watched the SUU Gymnastics team.  That was awesome.  Even Makayla enjoyed watching the meet and she isn't into gymnastics.  Laney enjoyed it a lot, but the best reaction was from Kelli.  When she wasn't smiling and cheering, she was busy watching the girls with rapt attention.  She is definitely ready to start doing gymnastics again.  She LOVED it!  We picked a great night to go to our first meet as SUU did very well and scored so high they set a new school record!  Talk about fun and excitement!

We all enjoyed watching these sports and will probably go several more times.  I don't think we are in danger of becoming die hard fans just yet though!  Actually, the second gymnastics meet we watched was SUU against BYU.  Of course I had to call Lindsay and rub it in when SUU won!
