Spring Vacation

For spring vacation this year, Makayla took a couple of extra days off of school so we could go to Elsinore and see Gramma and Papa. We all had so much fun. Going to the farm is seriously one of the girls' favorite things to do. There are always lots of animals to see and play with, they get to ride in the back of the truck when they go "help" Papa feed, help feed milk to calves, play with the kittens, get treats from Gramma and Papa, and when the milking is almost done and the barn is cleaned up, the girls get to pretend to be Gramma's cows. What's not to love?! This visit we took shadow for the first time. Ummmm, I think he LOVED it too!

Shadow loved being able to run around and explore everything. He rode around in the back of the truck and also got to chase birds. His favorite was probably when we fed the calves because he always seemed to find spilled milk or if not, then would just find it in a bucket. What a treat. Then we would go back to Gramma and Papa's house and their scary little puppies would antagonize him. I don't think Shadow quite knew what to do with the little furballs. He would be laying down and they would come over and jump on him and nip at his ears. They climbed into his dog house and ate all his food and water. Even though his head is probably almost as big as their whole bodies, he didn't know quite what to do with them.
The girls, especially Makayla, spent tons of time trying to catch all the puppies. They were kind of wild and fast at first, plus Makayla had to avoid Tick, the mom, so she wouldn't jump on her. It was funny watching her dash back and forth trying to catch them. When she would finally catch one, she would go put it in Shadow's dog house, where Kelli would sit inside the doorway of it keeping watch, and then Makayla would run for another one. It entertained them, literally, for hours!

Laney thought it was so much fun to talk to Papa through this hole. The milk man sticks his hose through the outside of the barn, into the barn through this hole and that's where he pumps the milk out. Laney was all happy and talking to Papa as he was cleaning up. Then he stuck his hand through the hole to wave to her. It scared her so much, she turned around and ran away crying.




The girls thought they were so cool when they were sitting up on the haystack. In the picture of Laney, she is pointing at one of the calves, insisting that it wanted to have some milk. Without fail, she said this several times each time we fed the calves. The calf was actually dead, but they hadn't had time to move it yet. Laney and Kelli were just sure it was still hungry.

Mom and I got to work on several craft projects. I've been wanting to do some for a while, but just haven't gotten to it. I'm happy to say I finished one! Yay! Mom started several and they looked so good-and she says she isn't crafty! She still needed to put a few finishing touches on them, but I know they will look awesome.

While we were enjoying ourselves in Elsinore, Jacob was slaving away in Cedar City. In addition to work and his church calling, he also redid my closet so I have more space to hang clothes, and mostly finished the girls closet, adding tons of shelves and rods for hanging things. What a man!

Spring break was great!
