Wrightwood Guest Ranch

A few miles outside of Wrightwood they have begun building the Wrightwood Guest Ranch. For the past several months they have been building a zip line through the trees. It's supposed to be really big and take several hours to ride on. Eventually at the Guest Ranch they will be building lodges, cabins, have horseback riding and all kinds of neat things like that. Jacob's Dad will be doing a lot of the work on building it once all the funding goes through and the permits are filed. This winter the owner asked Jac's Dad to run the "snow play" portion of the ranch. Basically, snow is quite a novelty around here and people will literally drive for hours just for the opportunity to play in it. The ranch has just over 300 acres and since it is mostly foresty area, people just assume they can play there. Unfortunately, they leave tons of trash and the owner always has to haul out truck loads of trash each year. Our job was to collect a $5 fee for anyone who wanted to play in the snow there. It was one of the funnest jobs I've ever had!

First of all, it's just funny watching grown people who are seeing snow for the first time. People who come to play in the snow in tank tops, shorts, and flip flops. Seriously. I could just people watch them all day. Then you get the people who are so determined to play in snow, they don't care where they go. They don't want to pay for it, because they had to pay money to drive there and feel they have every right to play wherever they want to. People get so crazy around town, they will park in the road and play in people's yards. Seriously. We tell people we don't just show up and expect to BBQ in their backyard. Just because the ranch is big, doesn't mean it isn't someone else's backyard. Anyway, our job was just to collect money from people and sell sleds. It was really good money and it was fun because we were pretty much just working with family.

Hopefully next year we will get lots of snow so we can do it again!
