Go For the Gold!

At Makayla's school they have an AR reading program where the kids can earn "eagles" (they are the East Elementary Eagles). The kids just read books, take quizzes on them, and when they get enough points, they earn different colored eagles-blue, red, green, etc. Everyone kept saying "Go for the Gold!" "Get your Golden Eagle". Well, in January, Makayla and her friend Mckenna were the first first graders in their school to earn them this year! Way to go Makayla! Then, the part I don't quite understand, is that she went on to earn a purple eagle, which is the highest one they can get. I don't know why they make such a big deal of the gold eagle if the purple is higher, but whatever.

Makayla's class also put on a little play for parents this past week. It was about the water cycle which they had been learning about. Makayla was playing the part of the sun, so we got to practice at home for a week or so before that. Needless to say, Kelli also knew Makayla's parts, and all of us have the songs stuck in our heads now! Even Laney keeps singing "Rain drops keep fallin on my head. They just keep fallin. Falling on my head." What a cutie! I just had my regular camera so I didn't have time to record the first song, but here is their last song. Makayla kept looking to her right where here teacher was really trying to get the kids to get into the song (love her, she's a great teacher). When they were finished they played this song again so everyone could "rock out with them." By the way, I blame the bad video job on the fact that I had Kelli and Laney bouncing around bumping my arm. We had people behind us so I could stand up and move away...
