Getting Settled

Anyone who knows me, knows that I hate living out of boxes. It seems as if I have been doing so much of that the past several months. It took us an extra long time getting moved into our house because it needed some work done on it. Tons of deep cleaning to do, in addition to installing new toilets, fixing leaks, and building closets and shelves. On top of that, we've been trying to go through all the salon and hobby shop stuff we still have, organizing it so we can store it away and until we are ready to use it again. Between work and everything else we have going on, it just hasn't been happening fast enough for me! Just when we thought things were about to be all settled, we found out we have to move again!!! Apparently this house has been listed for sale for 7 years. 7 years. The housing market here is horrible and it just hasn't sold. Before we agreed to move here, the owner said he would take the house off the market (a few months after they built the house he got a promotion for work and moved to Utah. They have been renting it, hoping to sell since then). Apparently, the realtor made a mistake. They took the lockbox and sign, but didn't take if off the MLS. Two months later, a couple saw the house and fell in love with the area. I can't really blame the guy for wanting to sell, it's been 7 years. However, that means that we will now have to move again-the second time 3 months. Worse, we will be moving about the middle of December, in tons of snow. In the meantime, here we are, living in limbo. We don't want to unpack more boxes, we'll just have to pack them again. We don't want to organize things, because we'll just move them. Don't want to build a shed, just have to take it down. What a pain!

On a happy note, we've found a wonderful new place to live! When we first started looking, we were so discouraged. All the houses were really small and cost a fortune. Then we were fortunate enough to find three other houses. They were all owned by people who used to be in the ward here but moved out of state and don't want to sell their houses until the market goes back up. All three houses were great, and since we had so many to choose from, each of the owners were willing to negotiate the prices so they were lower. The one we decided on is pretty nice. It's not as fancy as this one is, but it's still really nice and it has more bedrooms and way more storage places. The rooms are spacious, and we don't feel crowded there. Best of all is the yard-it is huge! Well, by Wrightwood standards! Plus, it has grass. That is one of the things I miss the most about Cedar City. I think the majority of people here do not have grass-just mountain landscaping. Of course, I won't see the grass until springtime, but just knowing it's there will be great. There will be plenty of room for the kids to run around and ride their bikes in the backyard (in the backyard there is a big deck, then cement, a short patch of grass, then kind of a dirt/grassy field. The backyard has several paths lined out with bike path, or in Jacob's case, a R/C track. Of course, we'll probably have lots of snow before we move, but next summer it will be nice. It's also on the side of town where it stays light about 15 minutes longer. Where we are now, the sun drops behind one of the mountains and it gets dark early.

Right now we are kind of just waiting for the other renters to move out of what will be our new house. They are supposed to be out by the 8th of December, but Makayla is getting baptized on the 11th, so we probably won't move until after that. Jacob's Dad said it was too bad we couldn't move over Thanksgiving weekend. He said since we are having dinner at our house, we could just feed everyone and then say "surprise, time to help us move!" We aren't excited about moving, but we are all very excited about being moved into that new house. I am so thankful we have wonderful family members here that are always so willing to help us out. For now, if I seem like a chicken with my head cut off, it's because I'm still living in limbo, out of boxes, and when my house is not organized, my brain is all crazy and it's hard to think and remember things. Hopefully by the new year, I can be settled.
