This past week has been another super busy one for us. Between school winding down and a billion games, practices, and doctor appointments, we don't have a lot of leftover time.
Laney is getting closer to being done with her end of the year SAGE testing at school. Her teacher made a deal with the class that whenever they finish a subject of testing they get to play kickball- to practice up for the big 5th grade vs. teachers game just before school gets out. I think after this next week of school they kind of just have fun days at school and don't do a whole lot of work. Laney is so heart-broken about that, (ha, ha)! Laney also continues to do awesome in softball. She does a great job wherever she plays on the field. Our favorite place to watch her play is catcher. Not a lot of balls get past her, and when they do, she hustles to get the ball- not a common trait in her league.
Jacob was finally able to have surgery on his wrist last Monday. I took the day off work so I could help him. We were really impressed with the doctors and were pleased with how things turned out. It took quite a while for the anesthesia to wear off so Jacob could walk around and be discharged. Jacob actually felt quite well on Monday and part of Tuesday-probably because he still had a lot of drugs in his system from the surgery. However, once those wore off, it kind of went downhill. If he didn't take any pain meds, he hurt a lot. If he did take them, he would get really nauseous and sick. I think one of the worst things for him was that he was so exhausted because he just couldn't sleep much, and when he did, it really wasn't very restful sleep. Now he has the pain somewhat under control. It still hurts a lot, but it is manageable. Jacob's splint/cast bothers him a lot. Besides being itchy, it digs into different parts of his hand and really hurts. He is also bored out of his mind not being able to do a whole lot during the day. Jacob is getting better at using his left hand though, since he can't put any pressure on his wrist for two weeks, even just holding a piece of paper.
I'm still busy with work and playing chauffer. As soon as I get off work at night I'm taking the girls to games or practices. Each week we have 5 polo practices and sometimes games, 2-3 softball games and at least one practice, and 2-3 soccer games and sometimes a practice. Plus Young Women's. I have to try to fit dinner in somehow in between everything. Once we get home for the night (usually 8 or 9), I get the girls going to bed then head out to the barbershop to close things out and clean things up. I get home about 10:30, then do all the stuff I need to do around the house: cleaning, signing school papers, paying bills, etc. There are just not enough hours in the day!
Makayla is still busy with school and water polo. She has been practicing her trumpet a lot so she can try out for Wind Ensemble-one of the top bands in the school. She will be trying out tomorrow so she is kind of nervous, but we know she will do awesome! Water Polo is still going strong. They are kind of in the home stretch before the State meet in a few weeks so they are really doing a lot of conditioning. Even though it hurts her back a lot, Makayla pushes herself each time so she can be better. She is amazing! Last week they played a couple games against Cottonwood. We love watching her games! They finally got around to having the awards banquet for swimming. Makayla got awarded the "Social Butterfly" award because she is nice and talks to everyone on the team.
Kelli has been practicing the violin a lot because she wants to try out for advanced orchestra and skip intermediate orchestra next year. Kelli has also been busy doing nice, little, extra things for people around her. She likes making birthday cards for people when it is their birthday or doing a card for a friend if she seems down (Makayla is really good at this also). Kelli is still known as a terror on the soccer field. We love watching her play. It's so fun watching her play against boys who are bigger than she is (it's a co-ed team). She is really aggressive and never gives up. If the ball gets past her, she turns on the speed and runs it down. Kelli and Laney got to have a fun Activity for Church this week. They had cupcake wars, where one of their friends' (she turned 12 last year) showed them different things about decorating, and then they each got to decorate and bring home 4 cupcakes. I forgot to take a picture, but they looked fabulous! It was hard not sneaking a bite while they were sleeping at night!
