April 22, 2018

Jacob had a pretty rough week this week.  On Tuesday he was working at the barbershop trying to fix the ceiling from where he took down the drop down ceiling last week.  He was on the ladder trying to hurry up and finish something before a client came in.  According to him, he was just “stupid” and did things he shouldn’t have done.  He was on the ladder with a hurt foot.  He was trying to pull out a screw instead of pry it out, etc.  Anyway, he managed to fall off the ladder and caught himself with his wrist-and his face.

He went to urgent care and found out that he had a concussion, fractured his cheekbones on both sides of his face, and would need to have surgery to put a plate in his wrist that was broken in 3 places.  Not news he wanted to hear!  I picked Jacob up from Urgent Care and we were able to go right over and meet with the surgeon who would be fixing his wrist.  Unfortunately, he has to wait until Monday, April 23 to have the surgery.  He has to give the wrist time to let the swelling go down.  The doctor expects him to be off of work for at least 6-8 weeks.  Jacob is hoping he has a fast recovery!  It’s been really hard for Jacob to not be able to do things.  He feels like he is just waiting around being miserable because he knows it’s going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

You can see chunks of bone in the wrist!

The bone on the right is completely to the side & separate from where it should be.
Waiting for the surgeon-about 3 hours after it happened.
This has been a particularly busy week carting the girls to all their activities and games.  In addition to that, I go into the barbershop every night so I can close things out and clean things up-things Jacob used to do.  It’s never a dull moment for me-or a slow moment.  In my “spare” time I’ve started doing some yardwork.  I actually enjoy doing it when I am not rushed.  I also got to give my second haircut of my life.  Once I cut my mom's hair.  It wasn't what she asked for because I had to keep cutting it shorter because it was uneven.  But I thought it looked super cute on her.  Anyway, Jacob's hair was bugging him so he decided to buzz it on Saturday.  Turns out it was a little harder to do it left handed and on pain meds, so I got to finish it.  What can I say, it looks good.  Hard to mess up a buzz, but I'm still proud of myself.  Of course, someone awesome walked me through it.
Superman thinks he can do anything!
Makayla got to go to a party at her friend’s hosue and also had time to have her friend Kylie come over.  Sounds silly to be such a big deal, but she’s always so busy with school, swim, band, church, and water polo that she doesn’t have a lot of time to spend with friends.  With summer coming, hopefully she will have more time to spend with her friends!

Kelli has been busy with soccer.  The other day we were waiting for her game to start.  The players had all taken their places on the field when we hear someone from the other team say “OH CRAP!  Kelli’s on defense!”  It was a boy who was on her team last season.  Apparently he knows just how intimidating she can be on defense!  We enjoy watching Kelli play and hear comments that are made about her "That girl is a wall!  Nothing gets past her!"  "Don't worry.  Kelli will run him down and catch him!"  "Is she just lucky or talented- well, if she's awesome every time she touches the ball, it can't just be luck!  That girl's good!"

Laney is super busy with softball and has games and practices 3 or 4 times a week.  She enjoys playing softball, but she also misses playing soccer.  We saw her coach from last fall at Kelli's game this week.  He jokingly told Laney she was lame for playing softball instead of soccer since she had so much talent in soccer.  They had a good laugh about it, but now Laney is really looking forward to playing soccer in the fall.  In the meantime, she is doing awesome in softball!

This week we were finally able to finish moving the puppy pen.  I never realized we had that much rock!  The girls and I had to get creative to keep our ninja puppies from getting out.  They figured out how to jump onto the doghouse, then over the fence.  It might look kind of ugly now, but at least it's in the backyard and, finger's crossed, it's working for now.  Once Jacob is better, he can prettify it.

On Sunday we had fun playing card games in the trailer.  It was at least a change of scenery for Jacob.  We have so much fun when we get to play together as a family!
