First Day of First Grade

Makayla started first grade last Thursday. She was sooooo excited to be able to stay at school all day and eat lunch at school. Several of her friends are in her class this year which makes it even better for her. Here's a picture of her showing her mouthful (or rather lack of a mouthful) of teeth. Poor girl-she can't even eat corn on the cob until she grows some more teeth! For now we have to just cut it off the cob, but eating it from the cob is what makes it so much fun! Her friend Rachel lost a tooth at school on the first day and Makayla was hoping to lose hers at school on Friday, but no luck. I don't know how it's still hanging on, but she won't let me pull it out! She can't wait to lose it so she can get some more money from the toothfairy. Actually, Kelli keeps asking me if I will pull some of her teeth out for her so she can get some money from the toothfairy too. She can't understand why I keep telling her no.

Kelli and Laney were also excited for Makayla to go back to school-until about 10:30 on Thursday morning. They both kind of kept wandering around the house trying to find something to do. Several times they said they missed Makayla. Kelli even asked if she could watch a movie (seriously, that was the first time she EVER asked to watch a movie. Of course, she only watched about 10 minutes of it before she was tired of that and moved on to something else). Thankfully, Gramma and Papa happened to come visit that afternoon, helping Kelli and Laney stop thinking about how much they missed Makayla.

I'm excited to be able to volunteer in Makayla's classroom one day a week this year. Last year I wasn't able to because I was at work at the high school while Makayla was at school. It will be quite a change getting used to having Makayla gone all day, but for now, at least she's having lots of fun!

I cannot believe that you won't pull poor Kelli's teeth out for her-she is just looking for some extra cash-you big meanie! Makayla you look like a great big 1st grader-I hope you don't get into too much trouble for chatting with all the boys at school! Love you!
