Derby Days

In April the scouts around here have a pinewood derby. Since Jacob has lots of wholesale accounts with companies, he was asked to order lots of cars and parts. As he was doing this, he wondered why the little boys should have all the fun and he decided to organize a pinewood derby for our family. At first it was just going to be his family (brothers and their families, cousins (that lived with them growing up) and their families, and parents). People were excited about doing it so they started talking about it to his extended family. Pretty soon, all Jacob's family who lives in this area wanted to be involved. We had a potluck dinner followed by some pretty intense racing. The cars ranged from little kids who were just excited to paint their cars, to the ummm...much more intense men who spent hours and tons of money making theirs just perfect. There ended up being almost 70 cars entered in the race. There was also a lot of people who didn't have time to make cars of their own, but came for the fun anyway. What a fun and crazy night. Jacob was the emcee for the night and everything went well except for one part. When we were almost done, Jacob said he was glad everyone came out for what he hoped would be an annual event. Then lots of people interrupted him and said it was so much fun we should make it a semi-annual event. The girls really enjoyed painting their cars and decorating them. We all actually did quite well in all our races and Jacob's car ended up getting second place. What an incredible night!
