First Day of School!

Lately I've been trying to catch up on my blogging, but I decided to take a break so I could post about the girls' first day of school! The girls have been looking forward to this for so long. I can't tell you how weird it is to have all my girls in school!
I kept thinking I would have more time when school starts, but I'm not so sure about that. The girls all go to school at the same time. Laney gets out of school at 11:05, Kelli gets out at 11:25, and Makayla gets out at 2:50 (except on minimum days when she gets out at 12:45). Preschool and Kindergarten couldn't get out at the same time. At least it's only 20 minutes, so Laney and I can take lunch to Jacob and get the mail during that time.
Laney was so happy that she could go to preschool. She was not even a tiny bit shy when Jacob took her to class (I went with Kelli since I had to stay for a mtg). Jacob said she walked right up to her teacher and gave her a hug. Laney said she got to do lots of fun things all day and played on the playground. The slide was "really hot and kind of burned her bum, but it was still fun". The only bad part of the day happened about a minute before I picked her up. One of the boys hit her with a book and it hurt so when I got there she was crying. Welcome to school!
Kelli didn't go to preschool at a real preschool, so this was also her first year of school. She only got to go to school for an hour today and it was for an orientation thing so I was there too. I guess it helps some of the kids feel more comfortable, but Kelli was so sad that she had to go home when she did. At least tomorrow she can stay the whole time. Kelli has been working hard lately because she wanted to be able to read before she started kindergarten. She is able to read easy books, but still has trouble with some of the crazy phonics. She's so smart!
Makayla made several new friends this summer and got closer to several girls in our ward. She was really bummed out when she realized that all of them were in 4th grade and she is only in 3rd grade. The 4th and 5th graders each lunch at a different time and play on a different playground, so she figured she wouldn't see her friends much. Imagine her excitement when she found out she is in a 3rd/4th combo class this year. The class is mostly 4th graders, but there are several 3rd graders too. Not only that, but she found out that her 5 best friends are all in her class! I'm not exactly sure how everything works, but apparently it's an awesome class to be in. Sometimes she gets to go to recess with 3rd grade and under, and sometimes she goes with the older kids. She does have lunch with the older kids, and she was thrilled about that.
I'm so glad that my girls are still at the stage where they are excited to learn. It's been easy teaching them things at home because they are so curious and truly want to learn. They are all quick learners. Jacob and I are so lucky to have our daughters!

What adorable girls! You should get them a bit smaller backpacks though-looks like if you add a book or two it would topple them over! They look so grown up-we sure miss you all!
