April 2, 2018

Yesterday we were looking back on the past week trying to figure out what to write.  Even though it seemed like we were running around the whole week, we couldn't really think of anything unusual that we did.  Oh well.  Times are good though.

Hopefully some of Jacob's busy-ness will end soon.  He has been working lots of extra hours trying to get the new house remodeled so the new tenants can move in.  They plan on moving in next week, so one way or another, he will have it done.  I'm so glad I'm married to such a multi-talented guy.  Someone who knows a lot about some things and it seems at least a little bit about everything.  I know I couldn't do a fraction of the handyman things he does.  The barbershop continues to improve.  On a happy note, Jacob found a trailer he wanted to buy.  Now we can go camping!  It's an older trailer, and isn't especially fancy, but it sure beats tents and nasty porta potties!  Time to do some cleaning (it's not bad, just not my kind of clean) and then we can start filling it up and organizing it.

This week I had to increase my taxi services.  Kelli and Laney have begun practices so now I have to figure out how to get everyone where they need to be.  For the most part, it usually works out ok and isn't too stressful.  I just have to plan on never getting anything else done between 2:30 and 7:30.  As busy as it is, I love that my girls are able to participate in sports.  Not only does it bring a lot of joy to their lives, but it also makes me happy.  Watching them play brings back the feelings of being on a team and competing from when I was a kid.  Even if it's a different sport, the same basic theory is there.  I love watching my girls succeed and be good at something they enjoy.

Makayla only had two water polo games this week.  I never thought this would be a sport I enjoyed watching (still don't think I would ever play it though!).  It was also fun sitting in the stands around some of the parents who don't know me.  I overheard them talking about Makayla and how awesome she is.  One dad was telling another what a great job she had done in the previous games.  The other parents were impressed when he told them she was only a freshman.  And that this was her first year playing polo.  Then they found out she has a hearing disability.  They were really impressed with all she does and how effortless she makes it seem.

Kelli started soccer this week.  She was happy to know at least two of the kids on her team.  At school Kelli has started SAGE testing.  This is the state testing they do each spring.  It makes for long boring days at school, but I'm sure she will do a great job.  Kelli also got to have a pizza party.  In 4H Kelli just finished up a small sewing unit.  They got to make emoji pillows by hand sewing them.  It turned out really cute-she did a great job.  Now she wants to try sewing other things.

Laney started softball practice this week.  There is only one girl on the team who has any experience pitching, so the coach asked Laney if she would give it a try.  She practiced just pitching to a catcher for a little bit this week, but hopefully we can spend more time practicing next week.  It's fun to see how excited she is to learn something new.  When Laney puts her mind to something and decides she wants to do it, she does a great job.

Probably the best thing for us girls last week is that Friday at 2:30 (and 3:30) was the official start to our SPRING BREAK!  We love having vacations from school.  Next week is supposed to be nice and warm so we can't wait to spend lots of time outside doing things we enjoy.  The girls began their break on Saturday by taking the puppies and going on a picnic up the trail.  I don't know who enjoyed it more-the puppies or the girls.  Either way, they all came back happy.

On Saturday we dyed Easter eggs.  We usually dye a dozen eggs each.  Not that we can eat that many, but we all "have" to decorate our own.  Some of us take this very seriously each year.  Our eggs were super weird this year though because it was like the shells were really thin.  They cracked easily, but don't worry-we colored them anyway!
